Police have detained Sungai Pelek assemblyman Ronnie Liu Tian Khiew as part of an investigation into a social media post allegedly containing seditious elements against Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Bukit Aman CID deputy director (investigations and legal) DCP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the arrest was made at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters this morning.

“Ronnie Liu was detained at 10.40am to give his statement. The investigation is under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 in regard to his uploading of a status on social media relating to Sultan Abdullah.

“He will be freed after his statement is recorded,” he told Bernama.

Yesterday, Bernama reported Bukit Aman CID director Huzir Mohamed as saying that Liu was among four individuals under probed for allegedly insulting the king on social media.

Liu is alleged to have uploaded a Facebook status reading “Now in Bangkok. They Are Saying No to the King”.

Police are still tracking down two others to assist investigations.
