Subang Jaya was today accredited as a city, with the Subang Jaya Municipal Council declared as the Subang Jaya City Council, making it the third city in Selangor after Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam.

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said this was in line with the consent given by state ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

He added that Noraini Roslan had been appointed as mayor of Subang Jaya effective today, in accordance with Subsection 10 (1) of the Local Government Act 1976.

“The Selangor government thanks His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor for the consent given and hopes that Subang Jaya and its surrounding localities will continue to develop through the world-class delivery of services,” he said in a statement.

The Selangor government received the green light from the Cabinet to recognise Subang Jaya as a city late last year.

Criteria for the award of city status include a minimum local government population of 500,000 and an annual income of at least RM100 million.
