The political secretary of former defence minister Mohamad Sabu will be facing a series of graft charges starting tomorrow, some three months after his arrest by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

It is understood that Azhar Che Mat Dali, who was arrested in July and investigated for corruption linked to a defence project worth RM56 million, will face several charges in courts in Shah Alam and Kuala Lumpur.

A source in MACC said Azhar would be charged under Section 16 of the MACC Act.

At the time of his arrest, MACC officers reportedly confiscated cash from Azhar worth more than RM70,000 in various currencies, along with documents related to the project.

When contacted, Azhar, 49, said he had not been informed about the details of the charges, and would reserve his comments.

“I don’t know what to comment as I have not been told of the charges,” he said.
