New cases soar to 660, but most recoveries yet

A total of 660 new cases were reported today, taking cumulative infections to 16,880.

Of these, two were imported cases involving foreigners while the rest were local transmissions.

The bulk of new cases were reported in Sabah (443), followed by Selangor (76), Kedah (60) and Penang (23).

Labuan recorded 19 cases, followed by Perak (16), Johor (10), Kuala Lumpur (10), Negeri Sembilan (two) and Pahang (one).

Another four deaths were reported, taking the virus toll to 163 or 0.97%.

However, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also said 350 patients were discharged, the most since the pandemic was first detected in the country.

Total recoveries number 11,372 or 67.37% of cumulative cases.

Active cases now stand at 5,345 with 101 in the ICU and 32 in need of respiratory assistance.
